Insulation Options

This post will be used to track my investigations into the different type of insulation methods, material and services.
Materials
| Company | Proposal | Status | Next Step |
| Natural Building Technologies | Paventro Internal Insulation | Claim building would only need 80% of original reqs. | Need to understand pros & cons. Calculation required. |
Installation Companies
| Company | Proposal | Status | Next Step |
| 1 | 200mm EPS Insulation to hit a U-Value of .14 | Questions outstanding
|
|
| 2 | Possible solution either with 190mm Mineral Fibre (MFS) or 110mm of Phenolic (PHS) | Awaiting Quote. | |
Rob,
I have just found your posting. In some respects, we are in similar places: I am 56 and about to leave my job, uncertain as to whether to retire or re-start on a different tack, I also live in a three bedroomed detached house (though it is older than yours) and am married to someone who is circumspect about some of my aspirations. In one respect at least, however, I am in a different place: I have known about the impact on the planet of our species’ ’success’ and ‘behaviour’ - and the importance of individual and collective action to modify it - for all my adult life and all my paid work has been in NGOs trying to change it.
So now I am thinking about all the things I could also still do to reduce my footprint, and, knowing that ‘refurbishment’ is ‘mission critical’, I am wondering about the same things you are investigating. All your questions are good questions, but I most like your reference to 1938: it isn’t about cost now, it’s about survival: survival on a long arcing curve we can climb on now, but will soon be to steep for traction.
So, all power to you. I’ll be following your progress with interest. Keep it coming!
best
Richard
Thanks Richard. The question I asked myself was “What is the compelling reason to give another year of my life to IBM?” - If I’m going to give another year of my life to something, it should be something that is going to contribute (albeit probably in a small way) to one of the biggest challenges we have. So, yes - it is a “re-start” and educating myself in a new field - and its fun !
