The news this week on the Veck ECO Refurb is that we have employed an ECO Architect - the same one that is working on Ann Link’s house. There was lots of enthusiasm from local architects, and some fixed price offers from remote practitioners.
I have also been to the National Self Build & Renovation Centre at Swindon and I am aiming to do some of the work myself to reduce the costs. The event was particularly useful with presentations and advice from how to start, getting the best price, project management, and individual experiences. The next event “Everything ECO week-end” is on Sat 11th & Sun 12th July. Obviously I will be going to this, and if you are planning to do some serious work, I recommend that you get a Build Store card to obtain trade discounts on materials.
So the next step is to get the plans drawn up for planning permission and flesh out some of the details. Out of interest, I have tried to understand how External wall insulation integrates with roof insulation with help from the Energy Saving Trust (EST) website and have some questions - I’m sure this has been done before, but I haven’t found anything (so far) on the site that shows how this integration is to be achieved .
