Summary

An extension and utility room is being added to 8 Piping Close, and the sitting room is being renovated. The rest of the house will be significantly insulated to reduce heating costs.

A Solar photovoltaic  installation is under consideration. A small system is planned to be installed on the flat roof, and an array of panels is under consideration for the sloping roof. This work si being done separately and is not part of this specification.

There are 4 areas of change based on a 12v and 240v supply. The 12v supply is for LED light that can be switched to an emergency backup supply:-

1.       New Extension: The extension will require a new 240v ring consisting of 4 internal double sockets and one external (eg for mowing ). The extension will also have a 12v supply with round pin sockets to differentiate it from 240v. This will be used for LED lighting and controlled by a switch (#2) at the entrance to the extension. A 12v supply and switch (#3) are required for LED lighting to be place onto the patio floor outside the extension.

2.       Living Room:  2 sockets are to be removed since they will be in the way of a wood burning stove that will be placed in the corner. 3 additional sockets are required. A new ring main is required for the 12v lighting system which will require 6 12v sockets with a new switch (#1)

3.       Utility Room: This requires 5 double sockets - 3 on the end wall and 2 on the wall adjoining the living room. A 12v down light is required and a switch (#4) at the new entrance.

4.       Garage: 3 new double sockets are required and 4 LED down lights. A switch (#5) is required. NOTE: The plans show the door to the garage in the middle - this will be changed so that it is on the left, opening with the hinges on the left. This will require the garage switch to be placed on the right of the door when entering the garage from the utility room.

Installation

There are 2 stages; the extension will be built at a separate stage from the living room and utility room renovations.

Stage 1

Wiring for the garage, utility room and living room can be done whilst the renovation is in place. The floor will be removed enabling access to existing wiring and ability to lay new wiring. However, 240v and 12v cables will also need to be in place for the Extension before the living room floor is re-laid.

Stage 2

Assuming the 12v and 240v wiring is in place, the ring for these systems will need to be in place before the final layer is placed on the concrete floor

Decisions

  • Type of LED lighting. For garage, utility room and patio floor.
